Innovative Fish Hatchery Training Program

Bagerhat District, Bangladesh, 3-5 May 2024.

In an innovative development aimed at enhancing aquaculture practices, Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC) with Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) has successfully concluded its training program “Enhancing Fish Hatchery Viability: A Training Program for Locally Adaptive Behavior and Restocking Strategies.”

As one of the program trainers, Mr. Checep Sugianto, from the Directorate General of Aquaculture, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, conducted a training that offered comprehensive shrimp culture training encompassing three key topics, which are water quality, disease, and fast feeding. Mr. Checep attentively assessed the on-ground conditions in Bangladesh, providing valuable insights and suggestions aimed at addressing specific needs and further enhance hatchery operations. Additionally, he presented participants with essential knowledge and skills for the implementation of sustainable aquaculture practices.

The recent activity was graced by the presence the esteemed Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Bangladesh, H.E. Ambassador Heru H. Subolo who attended the closing ceremony, underscoring the importance of such initiatives in fostering international cooperation in the realm of fisheries management. The Ambassador visit underscored the program's significance in fostering bilateral collaboration and knowledge exchange in aquaculture development.

A notable aspect of the training program was its interactive approach, fostering lively discussions and collaborative learning among participants. Participants express optimism regarding the program's potential to catalyze positive change within Bangladesh's fisheries sector, contributing to enhanced productivity and sustainability.

With a collective vision of bolstering aquaculture resilience and fostering socioeconomic development, the completion of this training program signifies a significant step towards realizing sustainable growth in Bangladesh's fisheries industry. It is anticipated that the knowledge and expertise gained through this initiative will yield lasting benefits for communities reliant on fisheries resources, driving progress and prosperity in the region.
