Courtesy call to discuss the “International Training Course on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation for CARICOM and SICA Member Countries”
Jakarta, February 6, 2023 – The “International Training Course on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation for CARICOM and SICA Member Countries” was discussed during the Courtesy Visit of Guatemalan Ambassador to Indonesia Jacobo Cuyun and his team, who inquired about the likelihood of implementing face-to-face training practise sessions in Indonesia in 2023. Previously, in August 2022, NAM CSSTC, in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency, and the National Disaster Management Agency, conducted a virtual disaster training attended by more than 35 participants from the Caribbean and Central America.
During the Courtesy visit, Guatemalan Embassy Secretary I Billy Lam Padilla and Guatemalan Ambassador’s Personal Secretary Aristo were also present, both of whom previously accompanied the Guatemalan Ambassador on a courtesy visit in July 2022. The meeting discussed arrangements for sending notifications to two Guatemalan participants in order to prepare them for the face-to-face training that ITB plans to hold in Indonesia in July 2023.
The NAM CSSTC Director Diar Nurbintoro informed the Guatemalan Embassy team that communication with potential participants would be handled centrally by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who would relay it through the SICA Secretariat.
Aside from discussing plans for disaster training in 2023, the Courtesy Visit also discussed NAM CSSTC’s response to the portfolio submitted by the embassy last year. According to NAM CSSTC, the portfolio is still being studied and will always be taken into account when capacity-building activities involving Guatemalan human resources as resource persons are carried out in the future.
The Courtesy Visit concluded with the Director of NAM CSSTC expressing gratitude to the Ambassador of Guatemala, who was visiting the NAM CSSTC office for the second time. The meeting demonstrated Guatemala’s close relationship with NAM CSSTC, and NAM CSSTC is committed to continuously strengthening bilateral relations established through Guatemala’s participation in various relevant programmes at NAM CSSTC.
