Meeting to discuss preparations for the “Coconut Replanting Program”
Through a virtual meeting on Friday, September 9, 2022, the organising agency of Timor-Leste’s "Coconut Replanting Programme" agreed on technical details for the program's preparation for implementation.
The programme is scheduled for October 11-14, 2022, in Viqueque District, Timor-Leste.
During the meeting, Fernando Egidio Amaral, National Director of Agribusiness and Private Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of Timor-Leste, one of the event organising agencies, conveyed the preparatory steps taken by the Timor-Leste’s government as the event's host. He stated that the government of Timor-Leste is willing to provide classroom and practise facilities for training activities and local committees.
Furthermore, Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is considering inviting Timor-Leste’s President to officially launch the activity.
Jelfina Alouw, Executive Director of the International Coconut Community (ICC), was also present during the meeting's discussion.
She stated that the ICC had identified coconut experts from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) of the Republic of Indonesia to be sent to Timor-Leste, a total of three people. She also stressed the importance of close collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Dili in order to handle the departure procedures for Indonesian Civil Apparatuses abroad.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic situation has improved since 2021, she claims that there are still additional administrative requirements as a result of the pandemic, which differs from the pre-pandemic situation.
The intensive collaboration between the Timor-Leste’s government, the Indonesian embassy in Dili, NAM CSSTC, and the ICC will be critical to the success of the preparations for the "Coconut Replanting Programme."
