NAM CSSTC Collaborates with the Government of Indonesia and International IDEA in Hosting the International Workshop on Electoral Efficiency and Sustainability
International Workshop on Electoral Efficiency and Sustainability has been successfully concluded in Bandung, Indonesia, from 21 to 23 October 2025. The workshop brought together election experts, policymakers, and practitioners from various countries to exchange experiences and explore collaborative strategies for optimizing electoral management while maintaining democratic integrity.
Organized jointly by the Ministry of State Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia, the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), and the Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC), the three-day program served as a platform to strengthen knowledge-sharing on cost-effective, transparent, and sustainable electoral practices, particularly among developing nations.
Throughout the sessions, participants engaged in discussions on financing principles, the role of technology in election management, logistics considerations, and innovative methods to reduce campaign costs. The workshop also included a field visit to the historic Museum of the Asian-African Conference, emphasizing Bandung’s legacy as a symbol of solidarity and cooperation among countries of the Global South.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Ambassador Diar Nurbintoro, Director of the NAM CSSTC, underscored the need to view electoral processes not merely as administrative expenditures but as essential democratic investments. He stated that “Elections are not just expenses but long-term investments into democracy.” Ambassador Nurbintoro emphasized that strengthening electoral efficiency is vital for ensuring citizens’ trust in democratic institutions and sustaining inclusive governance. His message set the tone for the workshop, aligning with NAM CSSTC’s broader mission to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among developing countries through South-South Cooperation.
The workshop concluded with a strong consensus among participants on the need for continued collaboration in enhancing electoral sustainability and ensuring that democracy remains both credible and cost-efficient.
