NAM CSSTC Participation in International Conference on Sustainable & Resilient Futures, Furthering Institutional Collaboration with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University
Kerala, India, 29 August to 1 September 2025.
Building on the recent courtesy visit of Dr. Krishnan Srinivasaraghavan from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham to NAM CSSTC Office in Jakarta, the NAM Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC) attended the International Conference on Sustainable & Resilient Futures: Bridging Science, Policy, and Practice. The conference, held from 29 August to 1 September 2025 at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s Amritapuri Campus in Kerala, India, brought together researchers, policymakers, and institutions to discuss pathways toward sustainability.
During the conference, representatives from NAM CSSTC participated in a parallel session on “Climate Resilience, Ecology & Technology for a Sustainable Future”, in which the discussion centered on leveraging technology to address critical situations, particularly in disaster-prone areas. The session provided practical insights on enhancing resilience in facing climate change, drawing on India's experiences with extreme challenges such as cyclones, landslides, earthquakes, and floods. Beyond knowledge exchange, NAM CSSTC viewed this engagement as a continuity of the growing partnership with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in the field of Disaster Risk Management for Asia-Pacific developing countries, following up on the recent discussions during Dr. Krishnan’s visit to Jakarta.
The NAM CSSTC representatives also joined in a roundtable discussion on “Investments for Innovation”, where the experts emphasized the importance of innovation in improving quality of life and advancing positive change within communities. The discussion emphasized priority sectors including education, agriculture, livelihoods, employment, and early childhood development. In addition to the conference sessions, the NAM CSSTC representatives visited several of the University’s specialized laboratories, including those focused on microbiology, machine learning, and landslide research. These visits provided exposure to the university’s advanced research capabilities and identified potential areas for collaboration, particularly in applying scientific and technological innovation into solutions for development challenges.
A key highlight during NAM CSSTC’s visit to Amrita University was the meeting with Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Chancellor of the university, on 31 August 2025. Through this, NAM CSSTC envisions this meeting as an important step toward strengthening institutional ties and exploring collaborative opportunities that can support sustainable development across the Global South.
