NAM CSSTC Explores Collaboration with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, India
Jakarta, 19 August 2025.
The Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC) had the honour of receiving a courtesy visit from Dr. Krishnan Srinivasaraghavan, Professor at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, India. The visit was part of an ongoing effort to explore new avenues of collaboration in capacity-building initiatives, particularly within the framework of South-South Cooperation.
The discussions highlighted the distinguished role of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham as one of India’s most prominent universities with global recognition for its research and innovation. Among the opportunities introduced, the university currently offers PhD (Doctoral) scholarships that have already been extended to African countries and will soon include ASEAN member states. This programme is designed with a unique model that places scholars directly within communities, enabling them to identify pressing local challenges and develop practical, research-based solutions.
One prominent programme offered by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is its PhD Scholarship, which provides comprehensive support including living expenses, travel, and research funding. The university has also shown strong commitment to act as both a funder and an implementing partner in capacity-building initiatives.
As an initial pathway for collaboration, NAM CSSTC and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham are considering joint initiatives in the field of Disaster Risk Management for Asia-Pacific developing countries. Both parties also agreed to begin outlining a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would establish a strong foundation for sustained cooperation.
NAM CSSTC views this potential collaboration as a meaningful step towards strengthening South-South academic partnerships. By leveraging the expertise of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in research, innovation, and capacity-building, NAM CSSTC seeks to deliver tangible benefits for developing countries, particularly in enhancing resilience against natural disasters and advancing sustainable development solutions.
