NAM CSSTC and UNESCAP Explore Opportunities for Strategic Partnership

Bangkok, Thailand, 24 April 2025.

NAM Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC) recently had the honour of conducting a courtesy call with Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). The discussion focused on exploring potential areas of collaboration between the two institutions, particularly in advancing sustainable development initiatives across the Asia-Pacific region.

During the meeting, UNESCAP emphasized its role as a facilitator under the United Nations framework, acting as a bridge between various organizations, including non-governmental entities. The conversation also highlighted UNESCAP’s focus on organizing international forums and meetings, which feature sessions dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and showcase practical, hands-on project discussions. These platforms serve as opportunities for exchange and cooperation among regional and international actors.

NAM CSSTC expressed its interest in partnering with UNESCAP on training and capacity-building programs, particularly aimed at Pacific Island countries. The discussion included the possibility of integrating such collaboration through the Pacific Regional Forum, which could serve as an implementing partner to enhance outreach and impact.

UNESCAP’s extensive network was recognized as a valuable asset for facilitating effective joint initiatives, particularly in strengthening regional and international partnerships. This dialogue represents an encouraging step toward deeper cooperation in support of sustainable development through South-South collaboration.
