Opening Ceremony of the Virtual Training for Youth Empowerment Program in Coconut Industry

NAM CSSTC and the International Coconut Community’s (ICC)
joint Commencement of the Youth Empowerment Program
in the Coconut Industry

Jakarta, Indonesia – September 19th 2024

The Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC) joined the International Coconut Community (ICC) at the Inaugural Ceremony of the Youth Empowerment Program in the Coconut Industry for 2024-2025. During this event, NAM CSSTC was present as one of the program’s sponsors. The ceremony, held in a hybrid format, took place at the JS Luwansa Hotel and was attended by program participants, as well as National Liaison Officers from ICC Member Countries.

The event was officially opened by Mrs. Jelfina C. Alouw, the Executive Director of the ICC with a lifting and commanding speech that emphasized several significant points. She underscored the pivotal role of innovations and development of the Coconut Industry, highlighting the potential benefit of expanding collaborations to include research institutions and the private sectors. Mrs. Alouw also underlined critical reasons and importance of the youth empowerment, stressing the coconut industry’s promising economic outlook makes it essential to train the younger generation to lead and sustain the sector’s future growth. She acknowledged, however, the sector’s current challenges including low productivity, climate change, and a lack of advanced technology.

As one of the sponsors for the program, H.E. Ambassador Diar Nurbintoro, Director of NAM CSSTC delivered an inspiring speech reaffirming full commitment and support for the ICC in actualizing this Youth-led Transformation Program in the Coconut Industry, stressing the importance of empowering and preparing the youth to achieve a more sustainable and a more regenerative sector. Ambassador Diar Nurbintoro also urged the youth to apply the knowledge and skills gained from the training programmes as devoted efforts to improve not only the coconut sector but also their immediate communities in general.

This Inaugural Ceremony was then concluded with a symbolized commencement, in which the Executive Director of the ICC, Mrs. Jelfina C. Alouw, together with other representatives of both the Indonesian governments and international organizations came together and pushed the kick-off button, marking the official start of the program.
