Exploratory Hearing on Collaboration with the Center for Standardization and Agro-Industry Services

Bogor, Indonesia – 15 May 2024

As an important step toward bolstering agro-industrial development among Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states, the Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC) and the Center for Standardization and Agro-Industry Services (BBSPJIA) convened an exploratory hearing on 15th May 2024. This meeting, held in Bogor, aimed to assess the viability of cooperative initiatives to enhance agricultural services and standards throughout member states.

The meeting primarily focused on evaluating of how BBSPJIA can contribute for international-level training and the possibility of establishing a framework for cooperation with NAM CSSTC. This visit is expected to streamline collaborative efforts in improving agricultural practices, product quality, and market access for farmers for NAM member states.

During the visit, the Director of NAM CSSTC, H.E. Ambassador Diar Nurbintoro, seeks information regarding previous activities, target participants, and duration of training conducted by BBSPJIA. The services and certification provided by BBSPJIA was the focal point of the meeting. By adopting standardized practices and achieving certification, these countries can improve the quality and safety of their agro-industrial products, enhance their marketability, and boost economic growth.

The Head of the Center for Standardization and Agro-Industrial Services, Ir. Edy Sutopo, mentioned, BBSPJIA offers a range of services to the community, particularly in the areas of testing, certification, technical support and advice, technical inspections, shelf-life testing, and proficiency testing to a wide range of audience. BBSPJIA offers modern facilities and advanced equipment that provide comprehensive training programs and holds multiple certifications for examiner roles and assists in certification acquisition through a training program.

This visit is expected to build a positive partnership between NAM CSSTC and BBSPJIA, particularly those with developing agricultural sectors. This represents a strategic move towards ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for the agro-industrial sectors of NAM countries. It underscores the importance of quality and standardization in achieving global competitiveness and economic resilience. (Keisha Monique Chantika).
