NAM CSSTC and Sabah Law Society's Joint Efforts to Promote Legal Excellence
Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia – 27 February 2024, Strengthening legal understanding and skills is a shared objective of the Sabah Law Society (SLS) and the Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC). Taking up modern-day legal challenges and the need of ongoing education and cooperation are the motivation for the bilateral cooperation between two organizations. A productive discussion on the promotion of legal advocacy growth ensued during the meeting between H.E. Ambassador Diar Nurbintoro, the Director of NAM CSSTC, and Bapak Mohamad Nazim Maduarin, the President of SLS.
During the meeting, the director of NAM CSSTC noted that from 2009 to 2012, the organization had collaborated with International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) and The General Election Supervisory Agency (BAWASLU) on projects pertaining to democracy and general elections. These projects have included workshops and symposiums aimed to capitalized on shared objectives, expertise exchange, resource mobilization, and advocacy efforts. Such initiatives are critical for fostering inclusive political participation, ensuring transparent elections, and upholding democratic principles. These factors piqued SLS's interest in forming a partnership with NAM CSSTC.
The SLS is keen on collaborating with NAM CSSTC to organize joint activities that include legal advocacy projects and activities which is seminars or Training of Trainers (ToT). These activities will address holistic approach to legal matters that acknowledge the importance of cultural expression in promoting social cohesion and understanding. This is essential not only for fostering diversity, inclusivity, social harmony, but also leveraging each other's strengths, expertise, and resources, both institutions can create synergies that enrich knowledge, empower practitioners, and foster networking and collaboration.
A bilateral effort between NAM CSSTC and the Sabah Law Society holds immense potential for enhancing legal capacity and addressing pressing legal issues. Through both organizations shared commitment can contribute to the professional development of legal professionals, promote dialogue on legal challenges, and foster collaboration for positive change. By leveraging their expertise and resources, NAM CSSTC and the Sabah Law Society can create lasting impacts in the legal landscape of the global south. (Keisha Monique Chantika)
