Building Bridges: A Collaborative Endeavor between NAM CSSTC and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association
Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia – 27 February 2024, A bilateral meeting between the Director of the Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC), H.E. Ambassador Diar Nurbintoro and the President of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA), Mr. Peter D. Maynard, took place on February 27th, 2024. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the establishment of cooperation between the two organizations, which would pave the way for collaborative projects in the context of advocacy and legal issues.
The Director of NAM CSSTC emphasized the possibilities of Indonesia's participation in the CLA, given that its area is bordered by Commonwealth member states, along with the opportunity for cooperation with Southern member countries. The cooperation addresses not only critical developmental concerns but also aims to empower local communities through customized training initiatives. The emphasis on capacity building demonstrates NAM CSSTC's commitment to promoting legal advocacy.
The CLA expressed a keen interest in the initiatives to establish relationships in achieving mutual objectives of future advocacy projects and activities. This collaboration is an important opportunity for CLA to support and enhance the impact of NAM CSSTC's operations. The ultimate goal is to develop a legal framework of the global south by collaborating and exploiting each organization's assets to address shared concerns and leveraging resources.
The bilateral meeting between the Directors of NAM CSSTC and CLA marks a pivotal moment in advancing the cause of South-South Cooperation. The shared commitment to building bridges across continents, cultures, legal systems through training, knowledge and expertise exchange, promises great potential for driving positive change, promoting justice, and advancing the rule of law of the global south and fostering prosperity through meaningful cooperation.
