Forging Future Partnerships: NAM CSSTC Meets with South Centre Special Advisor in Munyonyo, Uganda
On the auspicious occasion of the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kampala, Uganda, the Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC) convened with Ms. Yuefen Li, the esteemed Special Advisor on Economics and Development Finance at the South Centre.
The encounter, held in Kampala on the 19th of January 2024, marked a pivotal moment for both organizations as they explored for future collaboration. The dialogue, led by H.E. Diar Nurbintoro, the Director of NAM CSSTC, delved into crucial discussions about the financial landscape of NAM CSSTC, with a specific emphasis on the prospect of collaborative funding.
Distinguishing themselves from for-profit entities, both NAM CSSTC and the South Centre derive their financial sustenance primarily from member states. However, NAM CSSTC's unique financial reliance on a single member state, Indonesia, prompted Director Nurbintoro to seek collaboration in the realm of shared funding. The objective is to foster joint initiatives, particularly in the realm of sustainable development.
In articulating the vision for collaboration, Director Nurbintoro proposed joint training programs that leverage shared financial resources. Recognizing the shared commitment to non-profit endeavors, both organizations expressed a collective desire to undertake impactful activities that contribute to the broader goal of sustainability development.
As a gesture of gratitude for South Centre's participation in a side event during the Summit on the 20th, Director Nurbintoro presented a token of appreciation to Special Advisor Yuefen Li. The exchange symbolizes the hope that this collaborative journey will soon come to fruition, bringing mutual benefits to both organizations.
The meeting concluded with optimism and a shared commitment to translating dialogue into action. NAM CSSTC and the South Centre now look forward to a collaborative future, where their joint efforts will undoubtedly make significant contributions to the global landscape of development and cooperation.
