Sustainable Aquaculture: Bangladesh’s Community Champions
NAM CSSTC and Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) are working together to launch a community champion programme in Bangladesh. The goal is to provide leaders of communities that rely on the aquaculture industry with knowledge and skills related to sustainable hatchery management practises.
During a virtual meeting on April 14, 2023, BAU attendees discussed the proposal, which was praised by the Director of NAM CSSTC, Diar Nurbintoro. BAU’s project proposes identifying and training community leaders in aquaculture, disease management, and other pertinent topics.
The proposed community champion scheme aims to identify 30 community leaders from three key hatchery hubs in Bangladesh, conduct a training needs assessment, and collaborate with experts from other countries to develop a comprehensive training manual. By the end of the project, the leaders will have a 25% increase in knowledge and skills related to sustainable hatchery management practises.
Experts will be provided by Indonesian collaborators.
The proposed project has the potential to improve the sustainability of Bangladesh’s aquaculture industry.
