ANNEX VII REPORT OF THE WORKING GROUP 3 PROGRAMMES THAT HAVE LEVERAGE TO ACCELERATE PSYCHOSOCIAL RECOVERY PROCESS
OBJECTIVES : 1. To enable survivors to cope with crisis situation and recover as well as rebuild their self-esteem to continue with their lives 2. To enhance their well-being through educational, social, economic, cultural, and religious activities A. EDUCATION (FORMAL AND NON-FORMAL) · Formal Education o Group Activities for Children (counseling, recreational activities, aesthetic activities, cultural activities etc.) o Group Activities for parents (to build parents capacity to support children) o Teacher Support Groups (to provide counseling services for teachers who have been affected) o Development of appropriate curriculum (integrate psychosocial issues into the curriculum at all levels) o Training and on-going support for teachers on student support activity (early detection and establishment of referral mechanism) o Network/coordination with relevant ministries and organizations o Establishment of Student Guidance Centers in Schools (providing counseling and guidance to affected students) · Non-Formal Education o Programmes and activities through community learning/youth centers o Reintegration of children who have dropped out of school into mainstream education o Life skills and vocational training (for children and adults) o Peer to peer support groups to send children back to school and to support children’s learning and general well being B. SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC WELFARE o Media campaign focusing on community messages on psychosocial issues/awareness on disasters and emergency preparedness o Community participation in planning, resettlement, development, and implementation in activities to rebuild their lives o Income generation programmes (including cross training) o Providing culturally appropriate psychosocial support services for the community (counseling, community empowerment/resilience, coping skills) and referral of survivors if necessary o Commemorative activities for communities (setting up monuments in tribute to the loss, psychological feeling) o Finalization and Implementation of psychosocial policy and guidelines o Training of service providers on psychosocial skills/support for community o Replacement of lost documents (birth, death, marriage, property, educational certificates) o Provision of legal support (inheritance, injustice etc.) C. CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS APPROACH o Training religious leaders and community leaders on psychosocial skills (including healing power of positive messages), understanding causes of disasters, and on emergency preparedness o Inter-cultural/inter-faith dialogue and cultural/religious awareness raising activities o Supporting traditional and religious healing activities o Reinforcing supportive and protective family and community values o Safeguarding the tangible (monuments, historical sites, religious buildings etc.) and intangible (performing arts, customs, rituals, belief system, etc), cultural heritage o Providing assistance for community cultural and traditional activities (to rebuild their self-esteem and community resilience)
