PREFACE

A specific recommendation, which emerged from the workshop on Micro Credit Schemes in NAM Member Countries in Jakarta, held in June 2002, was that there was a need for convening a series of regional training programmes for micro-credit Practioners. This was to be held in the NAM member countries.

Consequently, training was held in Pretoria from the 21-25^th of October 2002. NAM CSSTC organized this in collaboration with Bank BRI. The aim of the training was to generally equip staff from the various participants countries with skills essential for the running of sustainable micro credit programmes. It was anticipated that after the training programme the participants would contribute significantly to the development and mobilization of micro credit practices in their countries.
