B.  TRAINING SESSION

The training was divided into 5 (five) main topics as follows:

1.      Philosophy of Micro Finance

2.      BRI Micro Credit Background

3.      Loan Procedures

4.      Loan Investigation and Analysis

5.      Loan Management and Risk Management

 

The training was conducted through the in-class session and in-field session, covering series of lectures, case study, group discussions, assignments, observations and presentations.

 

In-class training sessions

 

During the first day of the training, the participants were given exposure on the Philosophy on Micro finance, which is the first topic of the training. In this session several sub topics are discussed, i.e.: Micro Credit Objective, Principles of Micro Credit, Micro Credit Development, Market for Micro Credit and Micro Credit Technology. These subjects are aimed at providing the participants with some fundamental issues, which must be taken into account if one wants to obtain a deep understanding of micro credit practices.

 

The second topic, which is BRI Micro Credit Background, highlighted BRI’s particular micro credit system. The sub topics discussed during this session covered BRI Micro credit Terminology and BRI Micro credit Terms and Condition.

 

The third topic, which talked about Loan Procedures, has provided the participants with more technical issues. Loan Disbursement and Document Filing are two main issues explained during this session.

 

The fourth topic, which emphasized on Loan Investigation and Analysis, also went down into deeper and more technical aspect of micro credit. The sub topics discussed include 5C’s Analysis, Working Capital Loan Analysis, Fixed Loan Analysis, Collateral, Recommendation and Approval. During this session, the participant were also divided into groups and given an assignment on loan investigation and analysis. Each group presented its own view on this particular issue. In addition to the group discussion, two case studies on Fixed Asset Loan Analysis and Working Capital Loan Analysis were also thoroughly discussed.

 

The last topic of the in-class sessions was Loan Management, which particularly discussed about how to manage the loan and make it sustainable. Issues related to this topic are Loan Monitoring, Write-Off, Loan Rescue and Portfolio Quality. To enrich this session a subject of Risk Management was also exclusively addressed.

 

In -Field Training Session

 

With the purpose of providing the participant with a full and complete comprehension of a sustainable micro credit practices, an in-field training session was carried out in Cisaat, Sukabumi, West Java. During the field session, the participants visited a BRI Village Unit in Cisaat, Sukabumi and they were given the opportunity to observe and acquire information on the day-to-day operation of the bank unit. Detailed information related with loan procedures, number of client, the bank branch manager and credit officers conveyed loan investigation and loan management. At the end of the in-field session, the participant paid a visit to one of BRI’s clients who runs a small business of furniture and proved to be quite successful in growing his business by utilizing the loan from BRI. His payment record which turned out to be quite good made it possible for him to get more loan from BRI in order to expand his business. Questions and comments related to collateral, loan procedures, business prospect and loan repayment were directly addressed by the participants to the cline’s
