FOREWORD

This Report is written to complete the second project of the Third Country Training Programme on Microfinance for African Region conducted on 5 to 23 September 2005, in NAM Centre Building, Central Jakarta, with a field study to East Jakarta and Bandung. It contains proceedings of the training, overall evaluation and some recommendation for future training programme.

The project was implemented jointly by the Government of Indonesia, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM CSSTC), under the three-year Cooperation Agreement. Eighteen participants from 13 African countries took part in the second year training programme, namely Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Namibia, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zambia.

As the implementing institution, NAM CSSTC has been actively involved in the effort to promote the development and mobilization of microfinance schemes for NAM member countries. Training activities are the main programme to promote the microfinance sector in practical ways.

It has been recognized that such training programme is a significant contribution for poverty eradication through provision of microfinance support system, especially for African region.

Hopefully this report will be a beneficial reference on microfinance development that has become common concern of the developing countries.
